The new building complements the listed school complex from the 1950s and forms a spatial closure of the school grounds to the south. To maintain the scale of the existing buildings, the extensive spatial program is divided into two volumes. These two wings are connected by an open, multi-level intermediate structure that serves as an arrival point and a covered break area. The accessible roof of the two-story wing can be used as an outdoor classroom, a student garden, or a sheltered break area. The modular timber construction of Schlossmatt represents a new generation of school building design in Burgdorf. In line with the principles of the circular economy, the modules can be dismantled and reused at another school site.
