Over the next 20 years several school facilities in the western Bern area will have to be renovated and expanded. To provide a turnaround solution, the city of Bern is setting up a temporary structure consisting of three modular buildings in Brünnenpark. Construction is based on the Modular-X system, developed 10 years ago by Bauart, whose advanced typological design focusses on a compact layout with a central corridor opening onto four classrooms per floor. The Blumer-Lehmann company prefabricates the modules at its factory and takes just a week to erect the three buildings in stages. This is rapidly followed by finishing work inside and on the surrounding area until, finally, three two-floor buildings are created from 128 modules, including 14 classrooms in all, various school facilities and offices. Pupils will be able to inaugurate their new school from autumn 2020.
