Transition towards a society with an increasingly long life expectancy has made it clear how urgently we need new housing models. These would be midway between private homes and nursing homes, and would stimulate social activities as well as providing access to the immediate environment. With this in mind, specifically adapted housing units and a healthcare centre are being built in the OASSIS neighbourhood in Crissier. A recent article in the 24Heures newspaper highlighted the potential and challenges of this type of approach which is better equipped to meet the expectations of society’s new senior citizens while, at the same time, encouraging a mingling of generations in the urban area.
