Selection of teams for collaboration on the “Werkstatt Wankdorfcity 3” project

A lively, new district is planned for the north of Bern, in the Wankdorfcity 3 area. A place where people live, work and mingle at various levels. Structural density rhymes here with colourful life-style. The projects submitted for the now completed competition have revealed how the existing commercial area can be transformed into a lively and versatile neighbourhood. On the one hand, the aim of the competition has been to take a closer look at the quality of the urban planning masterplan completed in 2021 and, on the other, to develop programmatic and exemplary building, architectural and utilization concepts that can help to enhance, complete and improve this masterplan at all levels. The project competition has now been judged. From twelve teams of architects, the jury has selected the following four to work together for the “Werkstatt Wankdorfcity 3” project:

Bob Gysin + Partner AG, Zürich

The focus of this collaboration will be primarily on considering the Wankdorfcity 3 project as a whole, and on further developing the preliminary urban planning guideline project. The four successful bureaus will work together with the project manager IMMOFONDS and Rolf Mühlethaler Architekten (Bern) as well as Maurus Schifferli Landschaftsarchitekten (Bern), S+B Baumanagement AG (Olten) as master planners and HRS Real Estate AG (Gümligen) as implementation partner. As in the preceding stages, a support committee composed of external experts and representatives of the city authorities and Bourgeoisie of Bern, as well as the district, will be part of the “Werkstatt Wankdorfcity 3” project.
